Although I have enjoyed all my classes in the program thus far, I have been looking forward to this class in particular because we read and review books. Many of us are drawn to the library because we are readers. As a child I had my favorites. I read my copy of Heidi countless times and sometimes just the sad parts where Heidi was forced to leave her grandfather and how her heart ached for the mountains. My other favorite was The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew. I imagined myself to be the cheerful, helpful Polly. (Polly would have been a great librarian.) Those books seem old-fashioned in contrast to most of the contemporary fiction for today’s young readers but I’m sure they still have a place on the shelves of the library. Although the bindings are loose and the pages brittle, I could never part with my copies.
I look forward to discovering new classics and learning ways to introduce young readers to books that they will never forget.
